Start the Year Right: A Simple Check-In on Your Physical Health

The start of a new year often feels like a reset. The holidays are behind us, routines are returning, and the kids are heading back to school. January is a natural time to pause and ask a simple but important question:

How is your body actually going?

For many people, this is the time when old niggles become more noticeable—stiff backs, sore necks, aching feet, or muscle tension that quietly built up over the busy end-of-year period. These issues can make it harder to follow through on new goals, whether that’s exercising more, walking regularly, returning to sport, or simply feeling better day-to-day.

Checking in on your spine and movement

Your spine plays a central role in how well you move, coordinate, and tolerate everyday loads. If pain, stiffness, reduced movement, or poor coordination are present, they can limit progress or contribute to ongoing discomfort and injuries.

Our chiropractors Luke Stubbs, Kate Oliver and Julia Tsavasilis, are here to help you address spinal / musculoskeletal pain and injuries, and review your movement, coordination and overall musculoskeletal health. A thorough assessment can help diagnose the source of pain and discomfort, and identify restrictions, overload, or patterns that may be holding you back as the year gets underway.

Are your feet supporting you properly?

Your feet are your foundation. If they are not functioning well, it can affect your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back—especially when you increase walking, running, or exercise in the new year.

Our podiatrists, Catherine James and Peter Foley, have returned from a well-earned short break and are back on deck. They can assess whether your foot biomechanics are supporting you appropriately, whether additional support is needed, or whether soft-tissue strain in the feet is limiting your ability to move comfortably. If it’s been a while since your feet were properly assessed, January is a great time to revisit this.

Reducing muscle tension and aches

Muscle tension and general aches can quietly accumulate during busy or stressful periods. Addressing soft-tissue load early can make a meaningful difference to how you feel and move.

Our remedial massage therapist Teja Okolis is back and, as always, in high demand. If massage therapy is part of how you manage tension or recovery, we recommend booking early to secure a time that fits your schedule.
